Casey Cokrell is the commissioner of the Department of Family and Protective Services and is also responsible for removing more than 400 children from a Texas polygamist sect. He is set to retire on August 31st after serving three years.
The department has received heavy criticisms for the actions involving the children in polygamist sect. Upon finding under age girls who were mothers, they removed all of the children from the sect in Eldorado. The children were dispersed to shelters in San Angelo. However, the Supreme Court of Texas ruled the children to be returned as the law did not call for such action.
